Rarely do residents of Lime Tree Village pass up on an opportunity to party and enjoy themselves so Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday was an ideal excuse to celebrate in style. A whole week of festivities was planned. The marquees were put up in the grounds along with lots of flags and bunting, picnic tables were set out, food was bought and the bar well stocked. Everything was ready to go.
On Saturday, 11th June residents enjoyed afternoon tea with strawberries and cream while listening to the delightful sounds of “The Ocho Rios Steel band”.
Sunday was particularly busy day. The afternoon started with a glass of Pimms as residents listened to accordionist, and joined in with the songs from around the U.K. A delicious BBQ was served around 6pm. Everyone was safely ensconced in the marquee with their food and the heavens opened – thunder, lightning, torrential rain and hail stones. Food eaten, the skies cleared and the sun came out. The famous “Mixers Band” played during the evening and residents danced on the lawns.
Monday was a day of rest.
Tuesday saw a Cheese and Wine Evening accompanied by music and songs from “The Buskers”, a local U3A group.
Wednesday was another busy day. Our own Lime Tree Village Singers gave their annual summer concert. This was followed by a light buffet, prepared by residents, and then the “Dunchurch Silver Band” entertained us during the evening.
Thursday evening saw a complimentary meal of starters and puddings being served, later residents were beguiled by the “Giocoso Saxophonists and Singers”, an all-female group of saxophone musicians.
Friday saw the village full of school children (and their parents). Hayley’s Dance Troup and Ellen’s Cheerleaders had come to entertain us with their dancing and acrobatics. Luckily the sun shone and the rain held off. A hot carvery buffet in the restaurant was very well received and was shaken down afterwards by al fresco dancing to vocalist Matt Jackson.
The week was brought to a climax on Saturday evening when we had our annual “Jazz in the Park” event. Picnics were set out, the sun shone and the “Jazz Salon Ruge” jazz band played the night away.
All in all a very successful week of celebrations for LTV residents.
