Sweet or savoury, pies have been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians – and it seems there’s nothing us Brits enjoy tucking into more!
Whether it’s a delicious steak and kidney pie with a melt in the mouth pastry lid or a delicate fish pie with fluffy mash potato topping; around 75 per cent of us enjoy a pie at least once a month – according to research from Jus-Rol – founder of British Pie Week (March 2-8).
And residents at Elmbridge Village in Cranleigh have been tucking into a few favourites of their own – served up at the village’s restaurant to pay homage to the perfect pie!
A selection of delicious home-made pies made it onto the menu with fillings including pheasant, game, chicken, leek and bacon and steak and kidney.
Residents with a sweeter tooth were also able to enjoy homemade Banoffee crumble.
According to the most common internet search results for what we Brits are looking at recipes for, Jus-Rol’s top 10 pies are:
- Cottage Pie
- Fish Pie
- Shepherd’s Pie
- Chicken & Leek Pie
- Chicken and Mushroom Pie
- Steak and Ale Pie
- Meat and Potato Pie
- Pork Pie
- Steak and Kidney Pie
- Corned Beef Pie
We’re looking forward to seeing more on the menu at Elmbridge Village soon.
