Eva’s birthday party

Diary posted

19th May 2016

On Thursday 12th May we gathered in the Ballroom and Conservatory to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident Eva Lewis. Here’s a quick run down of the action packed day:

  • Eva arrived on the pillion of a Harley Davidson  [see photographs below]
  • She entered a ballroom superbly decorated with balloons, flowers, and photos of her younger days
  • The Jolly Jazzers band, as always, gave a very entertaining performance
  • Eva started the dancing with solo performance
  • She was soon joined by resident John De Morgan and they gave a display good enough for “Strictly…”
  • David Prodger provided a feast of nibbles, served by his Band of Angels disguised as waitresses, and most of us washed them down with a glass or two of fizz
  • John De Morgan later gave an interesting speech, summarising Eva’s life to date
  • We all enjoyed a slice of the superb birthday cake made and iced by Jean Cotton’s daughter [see photographs below]
  • We thanked Eva’s family, who had worked so hard to ensure the party’s great success
  • A big “Thank you” too to Hilary McNair, Margaret Harding, and all the others involved in planning and managing this splendid and enjoyable event
