Meet Mr & Mrs Aveline, the globetrotting retirees who put Lime Tree Village on their map

Helen and Mike Aveline moved into Lime Tree Village just a few months ago after spending the last eighteen years travelling around the world. Retiring at 60, the couple who are both 78, have really enjoyed life to the full and do not intend slowing down any time soon.

Helen is a former dental nurse and Mike was a project manager at a telecoms firm for much of his career. Since their official retirement, Mike has worked part time, chauffeuring for a private hire company for 17 years, which he loved because driving is one of his passions.

The couple previously lived in Wolston, which is only six miles away from the village, in a semi-detached three-bedroom property, with a garden. Whilst not the driving factor in their decision to move, the upkeep of the garden was becoming a problem. Helen said: “I really enjoy being outside and the garden was fine, it’s just it needed doing regularly so it was becoming a bit of a chore, rather than a pleasure.”

The couple chose a south facing two-bedroom apartment at Lime Tree Village with large windows, so they enjoy the sun all day.

Reasons for moving

Helen said: “Our reasons for moving were quite straightforward really. We wanted somewhere local as we have family and friends nearby, we were looking for a safe environment and wanted someone else to be responsible for the property maintenance and garden.”

“We looked at quite a number of developments and not all were local – we even looked at one near the coast. Nothing came close to Lime Tree Village, the setting is so beautiful. It’s very peaceful and we love the clean fresh air and trees that surround us. Everyone here is very friendly and we have been made to feel so welcome.”

Convenient location

Travel is something that Helen and Mike enjoy on a regular basis and with the great transport links that Lime Tree enjoys, they are close to UK motorways for weekends away or Birmingham Airport, which is just under 21 miles away, for trips abroad.

Helen explained: “We have travelled extensively since we retired. We’ve been to India, South Africa, New Zealand, Thailand, the US, the Canaries and cruised the Caribbean, and still enjoy getting away as often as we can. We tend to spend some of the winter months in Lanzarote.”

One of the benefits of living in a community setting is that Mike and Helen can travel as much as they want, safe in the knowledge that their property is being looked in the village.

Both still driving, it’s not just foreign countries that Mike and Helen like to explore. Hopping in the car and taking a trip down to Milford on Sea or other coastal locations is a favourite past time.

A family decision

Whilst the couple made the final decision to move to the village, they included their family in the decision-making process.

The couple have two daughters, one in Banbury and one in mid Wales, who were both keen to see the properties that they were looking at.

“Our daughters came with us to view Lime Tree Village and without hesitation approved of our choice. They were both very supportive and said that they could see us living here. They know the area very well as both went to Rugby High School,” said Helen.

“We wanted to move whilst we still could. We are both fit and able so felt it was the perfect time for us.”

Great facilities & a wonderful community

Since they moved to the village Mike and Helen have enjoyed the village restaurant which is open three days a week and are looking forward to getting more involved in village life.

Helen said: “We will be getting involved as much as we can and the beauty of living here is that there is so much available to do. We’ve been to several coffee mornings and will be trying out ‘carpet bags’ soon.”

“We spent 18 months looking at properties until we decided on Lime Tree Village – once we visited the village, we weren’t interested in anything else. It’s really important to take your time viewing properties and developments to find the right one for you. And of course, do so whilst you still can, don’t leave it too late!”
