A teenage weekend job has turned into a full-time career and a love for the great outdoors for Steve Moore, recently appointed head gardener at Charters Village.

The Smallfield man whose career has included cutting the maze at Hever Castle in Kent and tending the race track at Lingfield Park, has taken over the reins at the village.

Everything from wild flower gardens, woodland walks to rose beds, games lawn, and hundreds of shrubs, borders and tubs now become his responsibility as Steve and his team of two oversee the 16 acres of this award-winning village.

“I have inherited a wonderful village and will take great pride in maintaining what is here,” said Steve.

“My grandfather was a Welsh hill farmer and I think this is where my love of the outdoors stems from,” explained Steve who has been a professional gardener for the last 30 years.
