Residents at Charters Village in East Grinstead have found a great way to stay active.

They have taken up indoor carpet bowls thanks to Retirement Villages, who have donated all the equipment.

“We play every Friday afternoon and every Saturday and are finding that more and more people are ‘having a go’. It’s a friendly, fun, sociable thing to do and it cuts across the age group.  We have one resident who is 95 taking part,” said 73-year-old Keith Richardson, who himself was a keen outdoor bowler.

“We have about a dozen regulars and that number is growing,” added Keith.  “We are now starting to look at the possibility of challenging a few neighbouring indoor carpet bowls teams in the future.”
