Debden Grange is perfectly situated to provide easy access to everything the region has to offer and to the rest of the UK giving you the perfect mix of town and countryside living – the choice is yours.

The M11 is less than 10 miles away from the village giving you quick access to the north and south, while the railway station at Audley End is only two miles from the village if you prefer not to drive. The university city of Cambridge is 18 miles from the village, but if your travel plans are further afield, then Stansted Airport is a short drive away (under 10 miles).

Debden Grange is located on the edge of the historic village of Newport, which is the perfect location to enjoy walks in the picturesque Essex countryside. In fact, Newport is the centre point of the long-distance path known as ‘The Harcamlow Way’, a figure of eight walk between Cambridge and Harlow. There are a large number of short walks radiating from the centre heading towards Saffron Walden, Audley End House and Prior Hall Barn in Widdington.

Newport is a thriving small town nestled in the splendid surrounds of North Essex. Steeped in history, It’s an extremely picturesque area featuring many historical buildings including a 14th century church. Newport is also a hub for many a rambler, being the central point on the ‘Harcamlow Way’ long-distance walk between Cambridge and Harlow. As a result there are a large number of walks commencing in Newport and taking in areas of interest such as English Heritage’s Audley End House and stretching up to the nearby larger historical market town, Saffron Walden.

Newport village also has an active social community with a tennis club and benefits from a Village Hall where activities include a farmers’ market, bingo, keep fit, the Footlight Theatre Dance School, Newport Amateur Theatrical Society, Newport Art Group and Saffron Walden Carpet Bowls Club.

Essential amenities on your doorstep include a small independent petrol station and garage, a chemist, an Indian restaurant, and a convenience store. There is also a small garden centre, beauty salon, gentleman’s hairdressers and a bakery.

If you’re looking for more hustle and bustle, the pretty market town of Saffron Walden is just a short drive away. Here you will find a rich heritage of old buildings, including the magnificent Jacobean mansion Audley End House with its stunning architecture and gardens as well as St Mary’s Church, the largest, and one of the most beautiful, parish churches in Essex.

Saffron Walden is brimming with independent shops and cafés and hosts a traditional market on Tuesdays and Saturdays where shoppers can enjoy browsing and buying goods from a variety of market stalls.

For those that enjoy getting involved in the wider community there are plenty of clubs and special interest groups to keep you busy including the Thaxted Morris Men, Clavering Players drama club, Saffron Walden Round Table, Lions Club, Lioness Club, Ladies Circle, Historical Society, Probus Club and a computer club. You can find a model-flying club in nearby Stansted and the Ramblers Association in Uttlesford.

Directions to Debden Grange

From the M11 (travelling north)

Leave the M11 at junction 8 taking the A 120 (W) towards Bishop Stortford. At the roundabout take the second exit onto the A120. After 1.2 miles at the roundabout, take the second exit and stay on the A120. Continue along this road for 7.9 miles, Birchanger will be on your right.

At the roundabout take the third exit onto the B 1383 Stansted Road.Continue for 7.7 miles – you will pass signs for Stansted Mountfitchet and Ugely, passing through Quendon Green after which you will pass under the M11.

The B1383 becomes London Road, and then High Street where you will pass a Nisa Local and the White Horse Inn. Continue along the High Street, which becomes Belmont Hill. Turn left onto Bury Water Lane and continue past the Joyce Franklin Academy (school) and the Saffron Walden Hockey Club – Debden Grange will be on your right.

From the M11 (travelling south)

Leave the M11 at junction 10 taking the A505 to Duxford/Haverhill/A1307/Saffron Walden.At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A505. Continue to the next roundabout taking the first exit to remain on the A505. At the roundabout take the third exit onto the A1301 and continue for 1.5 miles passing Hinxton on your right.

At the roundabout take the first exit onto Mill Lane/A1301 and continue for 1.9 miles. Then at the next roundabout take the first exit onto the B184. Continue to the next roundabout and take the third exit onto Newmarket Road/B1383. Continue for 6.7 miles passing Great Chesterford on your left. Continue along this road through Littlebury after which you will drive by Audley End House.

As you head into Newport, the Coach and Horses Inn will be on your left. Turn right onto Bury Water Lane and continue past the Joyce Franklin Academy (school) and the Saffron Walden Hockey Club – Debden Grange will be on your right.
