Research by Prudential found 25% of retirees live in rented property, with more than two fifths of these tenants being former homeowners. Reasons for selling are varied, such as releasing extra money for retirement, which for some retirees means choosing a more flexible retirement option allowing for renting whilst on a boosted pension.
We understand that choice is very important, which is why we are very pleased to offer the over 55s, property to rent in some of our retirement villages. In this section, we hope to help you work out what is the best option for you. We will explain which villages offer rental, from which age this starts and explain the various rental plans that we have.
Rental for retirees could offer an additional lease of life
Retirement for many is the highlight of one’s life, especially with the low maintenance lifestyle of a retirement village and the added benefit of a more sociable lifestyle. Prudential’s Class of… research, still shows positive outcomes for people planning on retirement, but despite this, nearly half of retirees, 46% of people planning to retire this year feel they are either not financially well prepared for retirement or are unsure about their preparations.
At, Retirement Villages we have decades of experience with trends, and especially riding political and economic uncertainty. We do not believe in a one size fits all approach. Much like the unique differences of each of our villages, adding to their own character, acquiring retirement properties with us, means multiple choices.
As an alternative to buying we offer two types of rental packages
Option 1: take the pressure off selling.
Our rent to buy scheme allows you to move into your new home much sooner than if you await a house sale, meaning you can start to enjoy village life immediately.
This works in three simple steps:
- Exchange contracts on your new Retirement Villages property and pay a 10% deposit.
- Move into your new home and enjoy six months, rent free.
- Then have between 6-24 months paying full rent until completion.
Rent to Buy removes some of the time pressure from selling your existing home. It also means you can enjoy six months rent-free living – the only additional costs are your council tax and utility bills
Option 2: take advantage of retirement living, without the commitment
If you feel that retiring is your perfect chance of adventure and you’re not 100% sure which UK location you want to put down your permanent retirement roots, then a long-term rental could be the perfect option for you. A wonderful benefit of this option is moving across to different villages within our portfolio – truly making the most of flexible living.
Equally, it gives you a great opportunity to try out a retirement living lifestyle without having to make a permanent commitment from the outset. Plus there is no stamp duty!
How does this work:
We offer a minimum 12-month assured short hold tenancies. The monthly rental fee includes full use of all of our exclusive village facilities. The only additional costs incurred will be your council tax and utility bills.
