Retirement Villages Group Ltd (RVG), the UK’s leading retirement community developer and operators, has announced plans for a vibrant new urban community in Exeter.
The scheme in Topsham Road is designed to integrate with the wider community, incorporating retail and other amenities that will be open to all age groups. The development is the latest addition to RVG’s portfolio, with another six developments in the pipeline.
The site, currently home to the Royal Deaf Academy, will include 60 one and two-bedroom independent, later living apartments, a care home, 130 general homes and a children’s nursery.
New RVG CEO Will Bax said: “Our purpose is to build active, sociable, safe communities for those in later life. We see great benefits in ensuring our villages are more integrated and inclusive through offering a range of amenities that benefit the wider community across all ages.
“Our Exeter project is an exciting evolution for Retirement Villages that takes our community-focused model into an urban setting. There are great social benefits in enabling different generations to come together from building empathy to preventing isolation. We hope the facilities and infrastructure we’re building at Topsham Road helps to deliver a stronger civic society in the city.”
The project (pictured here as an artist impression) is expected to start on site in 2020, with a forecast development cost of £20m.
