Charters Village on track for December opening

A CEREMONIAL ‘topping out’ has marked exciting progress towards the completion of the first phase in the development of Charters Village, the newest in the
Retirement Villages Group Ltd’s portfolio.

Paul Walsh, Managing Director of Care & Operations for Retirement Villages Ltd helped developers Kier Construction to lay the final tile upon the roof of the village’s 60 bed nursing and residential centre, Charters Court.

Commenting at the ceremony, Paul said: “The topping out of Charters Court today is a significant milestone for the village as a whole, showing that work is firmly on track in preparation for the official opening in December.“

Work began in September 2012 on the 16 acre site at Felcourt Road, on the northern fringes of East Grinstead. In addition to Charters Court, six chalet bungalows and 27 apartments have been built as part of phase one. The existing manor house and focal point of the site, Charters Towers, has also been extended and refurbished.

Formerly home to the internationally renowned Bush Davies Dance School, great lengths have been taken to ensure that many of the original features of the manor house will be retained and used as blueprints for other areas of the village.

Kier Project Manager Rob Curtis said: “Having worked hard to preserve some of the existing brickwork, including a wall complete with etchings from ex-pupils, it is easy to see how valuable the history of a place can be to its future. This fusion of old with new has definitely made for an interesting and rewarding build project at Charters Village so far.”

Two dedicated show homes are due to open in October, with appointments for viewings now being taken. Please contact Sales Consultant Gill Davies on 01342 870871 to book.
