Residents at Avonpark Village were delighted to meet their MP and take him on a tour of their newly-refurbished village.

Duncan Hames was already familiar with the retirement village in Limpley Stoke which sits within his Chippenham constituency, but this was his first visit since its acquisition by national operator Retirement Villages Ltd.

The village has undergone a substantial upgrade with new facilities added, services extended and internal and external decoration undertaken.

Mr Hames was welcomed by the company’s Chief Executive Jon Gooding and Avonpark Village Manager Barbara Squires. He was then taken on a tour of the village including the independent living apartments and the residential and nursing homes.

Barbara said: “Mr Hames showed a particular interest in the care we have on offer at Avonpark Village and was keen to see the dementia suite, a highly specialised unit for those living with dementia and similar conditions.”

After the tour, Mr Hames enjoyed afternoon tea in the village’s clubhouse with a number of residents.

He said: “I was pleased to make a return visit to the newly-refurbished Avonpark Village and welcomed the opportunity to answer residents’ questions over tea.

“It was good to meet with retired people who are in the fortunate position to make plans for their future and feel empowered to take control of arrangements to provide for their later years.”

Mr Hames has published an article relating to his visit to Avonpark on his personal website.
