On Friday 21st June, care homes across the UK will be opening their doors to the public in order to change perceptions and show what life is really like.

The nationwide initiative, supported by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and The Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE) is hoping to connect care homes with their local communities and demonstrate them as inspiring places run by people that truly care.

Staff and residents at Thamesfield retirement village in Henley-on-Thames hope to do just that, and have an exciting agenda of activities planned to show their support.

The age exclusive village on Wargrave Road will be opening its doors to the local community for the day and demonstrating the superior level of support and range of care it offers.

Visitors will experience a typical day at Thamesfield; chatting with residents about current affairs over a cup of coffee, battling it out at bowls and trying their hand at mosaic making. A mini exhibition of some of the residents’ artwork will also be on display for the occasion.

Staff will be on hand throughout the day to show guests around the various communal facilities, explain more about the Retirement Village’s lifestyle and answer any questions.

For those looking to find out more about the living options available at Thamesfield, there will also be the opportunity to take a tour the village grounds and view some of the properties currently available. For more information and to make an appointment, please call 0845 5211857.
