A fundraising event saw staff and residents at Thamesfield retirement village on their feet and dancing for an afternoon of music and movement in aid of older people’s charity, Independent Age.

The charity was handpicked by Thamesfield residents because of the advice and support it offers to older people on very low incomes.

The tea dance was held at the age exclusive village in Henley-on-Thames, with entertainment from local keyboard player and singer Manella Seneviratne and a dazzling dance display from the Tojoy Dance Company.

Louise Light, Activities Coordinator at Thamesfield said: “It was a pleasure to help the residents organise this fantastic event. Manella and Owen and Juliette from Tojoy are regular visitors to Thamesfield so it was great to have them attend and raise some money for such a well-deserving cause.”

Just under £200 was raised on the day, thanks to the sale of raffle tickets and delicious homemade cakes baked by Thamesfield’s resident chef. Donations are still rolling in as family and friends of residents continue to spread the word about the event and its chosen charity.

This is the largest donation that has been made to Independent Age from an event like this, so Thamesfield would like to thank all those who attended for their generosity. The residents look forward to presenting the cheque to the charity over the next few weeks.
