Audrey Leede, Elmbridge Village

Enjoying independent living while remaining close to the family.

Audrey-Leede-PostBenefitting from the very best of both worlds at the popular Elmbridge Village in Surrey is resident Audrey Leede – who enjoys independent living while being close to her family.

Mrs Leede is a relative newcomer to the Cranleigh-based Retirement Village, having moved in around nine months ago from Chichester on deciding she wanted her family close by following an illness.

Still very active in her 80s, Mrs Leede is familiar with the surrounding area, and with a daughter living less than 30 minutes away, it is a location she knows well coupled with a lifestyle she is settling into and enjoying.

She said: “I have been widowed for 17 years and recently decided to be closer to my family, hence the move to Elmbridge Village from Chichester.

“I wanted to live somewhere where my daughter didn’t feel she needed to phone me everyday, but to have the peace of mind that I was being well cared for and looked after.

“She is able to visit often, and vice versa, and the joy of living here is that family visits are very much welcomed. As I am also in familiar surroundings, I am able to meet up with a friend from Cranleigh whom I’ve known for 70 years!

“The village offers independence alongside 24/7 help should you need it.”

Mrs Leede has nothing but praise for kind and caring staff and residents who have helped her to settle in.

“There are so many activities to take part in at the village, should you wish to. I enjoy playing scrabble and am a member of the computer club. The restaurant is also very good – particularly if you fancy a night off from cooking!”

She added: “I am a great advocate of retirement villages. I realise that I am fortunate enough at my stage in life to be active, being able to drive, and feel it is important to think about the future and to be able to make the move from being completely on your own while you still can.”
