Mr & Mrs Young, The Priory
“It’s made all the difference being here.”
When Joe and Nadia Young married, they decided to move in order to be together whenever Naval commitments allowed in various appointments.
Over the years they mainly managed to do this in many houses and married quarters close to Naval bases at Chatham, Portsmouth and Portland as well as abroad including Mauritius and Gibraltar.
On leaving the Navy, they moved to an old house on Dartmoor with a large moorland garden, with walking and fishing nearby.
After 13 years with both house and garden maintenance beginning to become something of a burden, there came what they describe as ‘a natural break’.
“It was time to leave the moor”, they said. “And we had already decided we would like to move to The Priory. We had visited here over several years to see both a friend and our daughter’s father-in-law who was one of the earliest residents. It’s a lovely place to live. You are made to feel so welcome.”
The couple both in their mid 70s, moved in at the beginning of August 2012 to their delightful two bedroom, two bathroom apartment, which is in part of the original charming building.
“A bonus for us was being able to bring our little dog”, said Mrs Young. “We’ve had him since he was a puppy and he is now 14”.
The couple and their dog are all able to enjoy The Priory’s beautiful gardens and views without having any major maintenance responsibilities. “There’s such a variety of things to do and events to attend here, when we wish to be involved; although The Priory also offers privacy as well as companionship, said Mrs Young. “We’re getting to know many of our neighbours, the surroundings are lovely and our son and daughter both enjoy visiting us with the grandchildren.”
