Our talented residents have raised nearly £500 for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance service by producing and selling 2017 calendars depicting works created in their weekly art group.
Every Tuesday morning the group meets in our communal lounge to paint, draw and even carve wood. It is very popular, attracting a crowd of residents who warmly welcome anybody with artistic talent of any kind.
Members decided to compile some of their works into a calendar to support the air ambulance service, which provides a life-saving emergency service to people in the local area.
However, they were unprepared for the generosity of their friends and family, as well as staff and fellow residents of Thamesfield, who have collectively bought over 100 copies of the calendar so far.
“The art group’s 2017 calendar is a wonderful, creative way to raise money for a good cause,” said our Village Manager Sophia Lawrence. “They are such a talented group and many of the art works are produced purely from memory, perhaps of a place they have been to or something they have seen over the course of their lives.”
Sophia continued: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all of those who helped produce the calendar, as well as everybody who bought a copy. It is a fantastic reflection on our retirement community.”
We have some calendars left for sale and are still collecting, so it is not too late to drop in and buy one. They are available from reception and priced at five pounds each.
