We are delighted to announce that Gill Plaice, one of our nursing sisters, is a finalist in the Lincolnshire Care Awards. These celebrate those who deliver outstanding practice on the front line of health and social care in the local area.
We nominated Gill for the ‘Social Care Nurse of the Year Award’ for her willingness and flexibility when it comes to shifts, work assessing new residents to decide care plans and consistently going above and beyond the normal call of duty.
Gill will join a host of other finalists across a variety of different award categories at a prestigious ceremony in February 2017, where judges will announce the winners and present them with their awards.
Gill (62) started at Elmwood House nursing home, part of our retirement village, five years ago but hasn’t always worked in care. She used to be a playgroup supervisor but always felt a calling to helping others, eventually following her heart and qualifying as a nurse in 2003.
In her time with us Gill has become an infection control lead. She supports and advises colleagues in following the appropriate processes and procedures to ensure that our care home is spotlessly clean and hygienic to keep residents healthy and happy. Recently Gill also completed a ‘Train the Trainer’ course in manual handling.
“We are all overjoyed that Gill has made the final of the Lincolnshire Care Awards, she works extremely hard and fully deserves it,” says our Village Manager Sue Scarlett. “Outstanding nurses such as Gill are the lifeblood of the health and care industry, performing vital roles for their local communities. I really value these awards as a public way of recognising their achievements.”
