For the past six months Liz Hunt, Twig Zeffert, Joy Marshall (pictured below) and Dot Curtis-Clarke of the Lime Tree Village craft group, have been knitting blankets to donate to the local charity, ‘ The Friends of the Hospital of St. Cross’.
Collectively, the ladies have contributed 18 blankets – all of various colours and sizes. And they are not stopping there – the group challenge for the autumn is to make ‘
twiddlemuffs’ for dementia patients at the hospital.
Craft group at Lime Tree Village is one of many ways to get involved in, not only charity work, but also to immerse oneself in the village life. As Liz Hunt mentioned:
“We have the time, and we have the skills. It keeps us mentally, physically and socially active. Often people donate the wool to us too. We chose the Hospital of St Cross because as a retirement village, we know many people who use the hospital.”
Their gifts received a warm welcome from the charity, who passed them onto the hospital management to be used as and when needed.
Nicky Mathew, from
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, said:
“We’re so grateful to the residents of Lime Tree Village for donating these beautiful blankets to the Hospital of St Cross. We know that our patients will love them and that they’ll bring a bit of home comfort to them when they’re on the wards in the winter months.”
The Craft group is open to anyone interested – Liz, Joy, Dot and Twig meet at Cawston House – either in the conservatory or library every Tuesday between 2-4pm.
Any donations of spare wool – please contact Liz, Joy, Ruth or Twig at Lime Tree Village.
