Elmbridge Village Sponsors Local Seniors Golf Tournament

Residents ‘jazz it up’ in September

Elmbridge resident Bob Horn, who has been at the village just over 3 years, regularly presents a music night at his local U3A club to the delight of his club friends. So, when a fellow Elmbridge resident suggested he should do the talk at the village too, he jumped at the chance.

Jazz musical evening started in March and this one has been the third. Bob likes to mix the tracks up with swing and popular music from the 40s and 50s so that there’s something for everyone. This month’s play list was called ‘Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue’ featuring the following songs:

  1. Monty Sunshine’s Jazz Band – Magnolia’s Wedding Day
  2. Blossom Dearie – They Say It’s Spring
  3. The Squadronaires – American Patrol
  4. Fats Domino – My Blue Heaven
  5. Acker Bilk’s Paramount Jazz Band – Blaze Away
  6. Frog and Henry – In My Little Red Book
  7. Ken Colyer – Cataract Rag
  8. Eric Clapton – When You Got a Good Friend
  9. Bix Beiderbecke – Singing the Blues
  10. Lew Stone and his Band (Sam Browne – vocal) – We’ll Meet Again
  11. Tuba Skinny (Erica Lewis – vocal) – Lonesome Road

“It’s a great way to bring people together,” said Bob, “Typically we have between 40 and 50 people attend. There is another resident who also hosts music evenings and his focus is on musicals.”
