We are pleased to welcome Tom Lee to the management team at our new village at Debden Grange.

Tom takes on the role of Assistant Village Manager and will work alongside Fritha Jaine to ensure that residents will enjoy a rewarding retirement lifestyle in the thriving, new community.

Tom brings 15 years of experience managing teams in customer focused environments and is really looking forward to helping to create a warm, secure and welcoming community for all those that choose to call Debden Grange home.

We caught up with Tom to find out a bit more about him…

What attracted you to Retirement Villages?

The role at Retirement Villages came at exactly the right time for me. I’d been looking for a new challenge, one where I could make a real positive impact, helping to improve the lives and wellbeing of others. This is a great opportunity for me to use my strengths to help Debden Grange and also learn from the wealth of experience we have throughout the company.

Describe your role in a nutshell?

I will be assisting Fritha and the wider team in the efficient running of the village supporting the residents of Debden Grange, helping create a safe and secure environment for our residents to enjoy their independence in retirement. To be available to give information about the village to residents, prospective residents and guests.

What skills or experience do you have that you think will be most useful in your role as Assistant Village Manager?

I have over 15 years of managing teams of people in customer focused environments. I have a wealth of experience in dealing with staff and residents’ queries and problems with courtesy and tact. I’ll be there to ensure they get a positive outcome whilst importantly maintaining confidentiality throughout.

What do you think you will enjoy most about your role?

The day to day interaction with residents and my colleagues. I will be based at reception and close to the club house facilities, the heart of the village so will get ample opportunity to meet and greet and build relationships with people during their time at Debden Grange.

Tell us about your plans for the village?

It’s great to be here at the beginning of this exciting new development. I will be guiding the team in all areas as we build a new community. As a team we will create an environment where all our residents will feel fully supported. I’m sure we’ll all have a few laughs along the way too.

What will be the best thing about Debden Grange Village?

Getting to speak to me every day, of course!!!!

What advice would you give to anyone considering the retirement village lifestyle?

Get a feel for the place. Come and spend time in the village you’re interested in, stay in the guest accommodation and become part of the community beforehand.

Where do you live?

Much to the envy of my colleagues I have a two minute commute to work, I live in the next village, Wendens Ambo.

Tell us a bit about you personally? Family, hobbies etc

I moved to this area around a year ago having lived in central Cambridge for years. I live with my partner Julia and our three boys (8yrs, 12yrs and 14yrs) so life is busy to say the least. Most of the time (much to Julia’s dismay) is taken up with Football. All three boys play football and when I’m not here I also work as match day hospitality host and stadium announcer for Cambridge United FC.
