It’s not everyday you get a birthday card from the Queen – only when you reach 100 years! Delighted recipient, Blanche Redwood, celebrated her 100th birthday at Cedars Village in Chorelywood, joined by family and fellow residents.
There was a beautiful birthday cake, balloons and lots of cards from well-wishers at a party put on by village staff.
A further surprise for Blanche, who has been at the village since 2012, was a lovely picture board filled with photographs of memorable occasions put together by her family. Everyone enjoyed looking at the photos and reminiscing over tea and cake.
Blanche’s daughter Heather made a lovely speech, giving an insight into her life and the things that she has enjoyed doing over the years.
Blanche met her husband David through a love of tennis, marrying in 1940 and they were happily married for 59 years. She took up golf in her 60s which she continued to enjoy until just a few years ago.
When Blanche reached her early 90s the family decided that it would be wise to move her closer to home, which was quite an upheaval from Manchester! Settled in an apartment at the village, Blanche enjoys daily walks on the common, loves her garden and is a two-times winner of Cedars in Bloom.
