July at Blagdon Village

17th August 2018

Well, what a month it was for the weather. We haven’t seen it so hot for so long, even more so than in 1976. It had an effect on our social activities too, with the cancellation of the monthly film and of the Fun Games afternoon, although most of our other activities continued with smaller attendances. There was one notable event, a 70th wedding anniversary.

Fun Games

It had been intended to hold an afternoon of Fun Games. These are roughly half sized items of equipment making them suitable for all abilities and can be played sitting down or standing, indoors or outdoors. They include a net that can be raised or lowered for either tennis or badminton and a small basketball net. Because of the heat only a handful of residents turned up and those who did were not inclined to be energetic so instead sat in the bar with all windows and doors open and passed a very convivial afternoon putting the world to rights.

A Platinum Celebration

Dorothy and Ian Bruford reached an incredible milestone in their marriage – their 70th, Platinum, wedding anniversary. They were almost overwhelmed by the large number of congratulatory cards. Dorothy and Ian have lived in Taunton for most of their lives and have been residents of Blagdon Village for over ten years so they have many, many friends in the area as well as a large extended family. Quite a celebration!
