Try Before You Buy scheme launched at Devon retirement village

YOU test drive a car, try on a new outfit and now there’s an invitation to live in a new home before committing to buy it.

The Try Before You Buy scheme has been launched at The Priory, Abbotskerswell, in Devon and is open to anyone interested in buying a new home at the retirement village.

A specially dedicated apartment has been set up to provide a home from home for visitors who are able to stay overnight and enjoy the facilities, including the restaurant, library, swimming pool, games room and beautiful gardens. There is the opportunity to join in any of the village activities, and meet the neighbours over morning coffee or afternoon tea.

The scheme has already proved popular at other villages within the Retirement Villages portfolio. Some guests have been so taken with the lifestyle and properties that they have reserved their new home during their complimentary stay.

“Some people find it difficult to imagine themselves living in a retirement village,” said the company’s Sales and Marketing Director Sarah Burgess. “Owning your own home while having exclusive access to such extensive communal facilities isn’t the kind of lifestyle many people will have experienced before. I always describe the Try Before You Buy scheme as giving people the chance to ‘see and feel’ how it could work for them.”

The Priory is an established retirement community for the over 60s in the picturesque Devon countryside. There are 43 apartments and cottages. Some are in the old Priory building, built in the 19th century for a closed order of nuns, and enjoying a host of original features. Others have been added more recently and designed to give the site the feel of a traditional Devonshire village.

Properties for sale at the village are priced from £115,000 to £325,000 leasehold.
