Every Christmas Carol White gives up her own family day, choosing instead to pull on an apron and cook a festive dinner, with all the trimmings, for ‘her’ residents and staff.

That’s an example of the dedication beyond the call of duty that has seen Carol White, the Village Manager at Gittisham Hill Park near Honiton in Devon, shortlisted for a national award.

Carol’s commitment has earned a finalist’s place in the Dementia Care Manager category at the National Care Awards 2011.

She will now undergo a gruelling interview process before the winners are announced at a glittering ceremony in November.

Paul Walsh is the Managing Director of the Care and Operations Division of Retirement Villages Ltd, the company which owns Gittisham Hill Park. He said: “Carol is so much more than the Manager. She is a friend to residents and staff, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, a champion for their cause and a first class carer.

“We are delighted her years of commitment and dedication have been recognised in this way.”
