The reigning monarch was our Queen’s great grandfather. The Russian Revolution was big news. Women didn’t have the vote. And the Wright brothers’ inaugural flight had happened just two years previously.
The year was 1905 – the year George Assinder was born.
He now holds the honour of being the sixth oldest person in the country. On Friday, 10th February he will celebrate his 107th birthday.
His family and friends are staging a birthday celebration for Mr Assinder at Moat House, the care home in Great Easton where he lives.
