Former Buckingham Palace butler Nigel Walter has been appointed as manager of Charters Village.

Nigel Walter spent three years serving in the Royal Household early in his career, waiting on guests and the royal family at State visits plus the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson back in 1986.  He also worked at Windsor Castle.

“I have some wonderful memories of working at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.  The three years in the Royal Household provided a wonderful grounding for my career in the world of hospitality and catering.  It made me understand the importance of detail and consistency,” he said.

Nigel joins Retirement Villages just as work has started on the second phase of the multi-million pound award-winning development.

Phase one at Charters Village in Felcourt Road was officially opened last year to provide 27 apartments, six chalet bungalows, an exclusive residents’ clubhouse, and a 60-bed nursing, residential and dementia care home with day centre.  Phase two will deliver 49 apartments.

“I am very excited to be joining the company at this time and look forward to ensuring that all our residents enjoy a fulfilling retirement lifestyle with us,” he added.
