Let Retirement Villages Group take away your moving worries and guide you smoothly and safely through the journey into your new home.
Whatever the reason for moving to a retirement community, Retirement Villages Group can help make that journey worry and hassle-free – even taking into account these current times.
While moving home at any time can be a stressful experience for some, we certainly don’t want any worries or social distancing measures to stop you taking that step to a new kind of happy.
Lockdown didn’t get in the way
One Retirement Villages’ resident who hasn’t allowed the current climate to disrupt her plans is Ann Heap – who moved from her three-storey home to a bungalow at the Avonpark community near Bath.
Having sold her property, located just a mile and a half away from Avonpark, in February; she was all set to move .. and then lockdown was introduced. But Mrs Heap was determined to carry on, and with the help and support of family, friends and the Retirement Villages’ team, she did just that!
She said: “I suppose you could say that I was fortunate in that I had already found a buyer for my home, and my retirement property was already empty and ready for me to move into.
“However, because of lockdown I spent a short time living with family and friends as part of my ‘support bubble’ while the fantastic team at Avonpark were able to get everything in place for me to move.
“They bent over backwards to ensure everything was just right, and even arranged for a gate to be put up at my new home to prevent my dog Holly from running off once I moved in!”
Don’t be put off – preparation is the key
Mrs Heap says that preparation is the key to moving during these uncertain times, and there is no reason to be put off.
“I would encourage people to come and see just what is on offer – make an appointment to view these retirement properties and get a feel for the community; which continues to thrive during these less than normal times.
“Practically, I was able to donate some unwanted items to the Red Cross, and now that many other charity shops are open, de-cluttering isn’t so much of an issue for people looking to move. Hiring a skip is no trouble at all and now of course, removal firms are operating once more, although I was lucky to have family to assist me with the physical move and the Retirement Villages team have been there to support me every step of the way.”
Enormous relief at feeling safe and secure
“Emotionally, lockdown meant that I spent several weeks on my own prior to the move, but being part of a retirement community means that everyone is in the same boat, so to speak.
“I have had the chance to meet other residents and neighbours, some of whom I already knew by sight, and everyone is so friendly. My overall feeling is one of enormous relief at being safe and secure and I am absolutely thrilled to bits to be here. It gives not only peace of mind to myself, but also my family – particularly my grandsons who have visited and delighted to see ‘Granny in her own home’.”
Our staff go the extra mile to ensure the needs of residents are met; and in Mrs Heap’s case that included village manager Bridget taking Holly for regular walks. Housekeeping and maintenance are all taken care of within each village, offering additional peace of mind.
Somebody is always nearby
Having already joined the community’s socially distanced painting class, Mrs Heap is looking forward to experiencing more aspects of village life as the restrictions ease. She added: “There is an incredible feeling that somebody is always nearby, and I can’t encourage people enough to make the move and do not allow lockdown to get in the way.”
