Now is the time…an open-ended statement which will mean something different to every one of us. In October we were told Now is the Time to invest in Russia. In the same month, the Prime Minister Gordon Brown was telling us Now is the Time for steady and clear policies to help us through the recession.
While civil engineering president Paul Jowitt said in November that Now is the Time for action on poverty reduction, education, low carbon living and inspiring able young people to take up science and engineering. A common theme which in all instances calls for action now – something we can probably all relate to at this time of year when New Year’s Resolutions are the order of the day.
If you are thinking of making a resolution you might want to take onboard a report from Quirkology which says 52% of participants in a resolution study were confident of success with their goals, but only 12% actually achieved their goals. Men achieve their goal 22% more often when they engage in goal setting, a system where small measurable goals are used (lose a pound a week, instead of saying ‘lose weight’), while women succeed 10% more when they make their goals public and get support from their friends.
Retirement Villages is running its own ‘Now is the Time’ campaign because we seriously think the start of a new year is the appropriate time to assess the year ahead, put plans into place and make the most of the next 12 months.
It forms part of our marketing campaign for January but it is more than just a throwaway line – time is precious, particularly as you get older, and that’s why we would encourage everyone, young and old, to embrace life and the time ahead and really make the most of 2010.
Happy New Year to you all.
