We are planning a new 10-acre specialist retirement development on land to the South of Albourne, accessed via London Road.

This is in response to the growing number of elderly people in the local area, especially those aged over 75. Many of these people not only require specialist housing in order to stay healthy and to enjoy a good quality of life but would also benefit from a thriving social environment with like-minded individuals, which in turn could prevent social isolation.

It will also free up under occupied family housing and alleviate strains on the NHS.

Our proposed new development comprises 100 extra care units serviced by on-site communal facilities including:

  • Longue with bar
  • Multi-purpose room (for formal / informal activities)
  • Restaurant
  • Meeting / private function room
  • Hair salon
  • Therapy / exercise room
  • Shop/kiosk for residents’ basic needs
  • Village office and manager’s office
  • Domiciliary care office
  • Back of house to include:
    – Full commercial kitchen
    – Village laundry
    – Staff room and changing facilities

Naturally our proposed new development would respect the local environment and the scheme proposes the retention of the existing planting as well as trees deemed to be of high quality.

Traffic movement would be minimal because of the age of the residents and would not add to peak time congestion because there is no need for work or school runs. Likewise the existing means of access is to be retained therefore there will be very minor building work on London Road itself.

The planned development will have many community benefits, there will be many employment opportunities during both construction and operation and increased support for existing local businesses once the Retirement Village is up and running.
