The ebb and flow of life on the Thames

Enjoying a picture postcard setting on the banks of the river it takes its name from is Thamesfield retirement village. The three acres of manicured, landscaped gardens, slope gently down to the banks of the river and afford views up and down stream towards the historic town of Henley-on-Thames.

Some original features can still be found in the main building, originally a Victorian country house, although it has been fully modernised, renovated and extended to ensure residents have the very highest quality surroundings.

Everything at Thamesfield in Oxfordshire has been designed to meet the exacting standards of the most discerning residents. Luncheon receptions are accompanied by champagne, the bar hosts regular cocktail parties and outings include theatre trips, visits to Windsor Park for royal appearances and boat trips leaving from Thamesfield’s own wheelchair-friendly mooring post.

It is the congenial atmosphere at Thamesfield which helps make it so popular with those aged over 65. New residents quickly make friends, thanks to the full calendar of activities organised, in association with residents, by the village’s dedicated activity organiser.

Life can be very easy at this beautifully designed retirement home. There’s a twice weekly shopping service, a visiting mobile library, visiting hairdresser, chiropodist and beautician and a restaurant which serves bespoke home cooked food.

Outside the gardens are the perfect place to enjoy a picnic with visitors or neighbours or to join in a gentle game of croquet.

And of course the river with its wildlife and traffic offers a constant source of interest.

This retirement home is particularly popular with those relocating from London and its suburbs, keen to retain close geographical links but also a enjoy a more peaceful way of life.
