MATRON Wendy Eltze turned a potential crisis into an adventure for residents at Thamesfield nursing and care home when the floods hit earlier this year.
Wendy, nominated in the National Care Awards for her actions on the day, helped evacuate residents to a nearby care home with little disruption – in fact, residents treated it more as a holiday!
“This was a potentially dangerous situation which could have been very distressing for residents” explained her boss, Paul Walsh, care director at Retirement Villages Ltd, “Wendy’s actions were outstanding, by motivating staff and residents through the entire period, Wendy turned a difficult experience into one that was actually a bit of an adventure for all concerned.”
Other members of staff at Thamesfield on Wargrave Road, Henley on Thames, also recognised and put forward for nomination in the national awards include: care manager Carolyn Letall and Ann Newbury, who has dedicated 22 years working as a carer for the elderly.
Winners will be announced at The National Care Awards on Saturday 24th of November at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel.
