Mais and Bill Harris love their retirement village lifestyle so much, they’ve bought again – this time at Blagdon Village in Taunton.
The London-born couple have lived at Elmbridge Village in Surrey for the past six years. When they heard the same company, Retirement Villages, was building a similar development in Taunton, they headed west.
“We loved life in our first retirement village and knowing this one would be built to the same standards and would have the same social side, we jumped at the chance,” explained Mais, a former school secretary.
The couple who have four children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, have always wanted to live in the west country – to be closer to family.
“From our top floor apartment we can see the Quantocks and all the Taunton landmarks. Vivary Park is a few minutes walk away and on our first visit to the town there was a brass band playing there with families having picnics. Then we found the bowls club which we’re going to join, and we thought to ourselves, this place just gets better and better. We’ve really landed on our feet,” said Bill, a former civil servant.
Other than having to leave behind their friends, the couple say they have no regrets about making the move to Taunton.
“The lifestyle in a retirement village is wonderful,” explained Mais. “It is very easy going, there are plenty of opportunities to socialise if you want to. There is a real sense of security and a comfort in knowing you are within a mix of like-minded people with the same values, often similar interests, who all want to make the most of life.
“I always tell people about the time my grandson visited me and joined in with the activities. By the end of his visit he said he had, had so much fun, why didn’t they start building villages for his age group!”
Mais and Bill live in Blagdon Lodge. In the next phase of the village development, prices will range from £195,000 to £275,000. Blagdon Village is situated off Middleway in the Haines Hill area of the town. The village is open daily for visitors to view what’s taking shape there or for more immediate details tel: 336192.
