Demolition work starts this week (Nov 26) on the site of the former Loampits Farm at Mayford – the first step in the plan to build a state of the art retirement village for the over 60s.
Once completed, Mayford Grange, will provide 47 hotel-style, fully serviced apartments and a range of communal facilities including restaurant, bar, hairdressing salon, function room, library, laundry and conservatory.
Machinery is now moving on to the site on Westfield Road, adjacent to the golf course, to remove existing farm buildings, work which is scheduled to take around six weeks. Building work will then begin in January.
The plans include a pledge by award-winning developers Retirement Villages Ltd to improve Westfield Common – the area to the front of the site – re-instating grassland and providing a new vehicle access, enhancing the facility for local people.
And the development will have some of the greenest credentials possible for a new build scheme with Retirement Villages working with consultants and Woking District Council to introduce energy conservation systems where possible.
Project director Julian Merrick said: “It is exciting to see work starting, marking the beginning of the transformation of the site into what, we feel, will be a valuable service to people living in and around the area.”
