Building work has now started on a state of the art village, exclusively for the over 60s, at Mayford, near Woking in Surrey.
Once completed, Mayford Grange will provide 48 hotel-style, supported independent living apartments and a range of communal facilities including restaurant, bar, hairdressing salon, function room, library, laundry and conservatory.
Existing farm buildings on the site, which is adjacent to a golf course, have been demolished to make way for the village.
The developer - Retirement Villages - is working with consultants and Woking Borough Council to create a scheme which sets new standards in energy saving.
The first properties are expected to be ready for occupation early next year.
