Lime Tree Village workshop offers retirement solutions

31 Mar 2007

A third of British people delay retirement plans because they don’t understand the jargon, according to a new survey.

And planning for retirement comes a poor fourth on the list of most important financial hurdles people face behind buying a car, booking a holiday and buying a house.

Excuses for not planning for retirement given to six-steps.org, a new website from insurance group Aviva, included ‘it’s boring’, ‘it’ll never happen to me’ and ‘it’s too far away’. As a result, two-thirds of people don’t feel financially prepared for the day they give up work for good.

A Retirement Workshop staged at Lime Tree Village, the area’s only development exclusively for the over 55s, helped address some of those issues.

And it proved so successful, a follow up workshop at the village in Dunchurch, near Rugby, is already in the pipeline.

The afternoon event, at Lime Tree’s Edwardian mansion Cawston House, featured presentations from independent financial advisors, Saga Holidays, the University of the Third Age and a health and well-being expert.

Around 50 people - either retired or planning for their retirement - listened to speakers and fired questions on points of interest or concern.

Property Sales and Marketing Director for Lime Tree Village’s developer Retirement Villages Ltd Sarah Burgess said: “As a retirement developer we are very aware of the issues and concerns facing people at this important stage of their life.

“We brought a lot of knowledgeable people together in the hope of providing as much useful information as possible. The feedback has been so positive we will be running another workshop in the near future.”
