Retirement Villages helps boost hospice coffers

26 Apr 2007

A local hospice has received a welcome cash boost from Retirement Villages Ltd, which owns Castle Village - the area’s only village exclusively for over 55s.

The company’s operations director Cliff Meyler handed over a cheque for £1,000 after hearing about the invaluable work of The Hospice of St Francis from Castle Village resident Hilary McNair.

The cash will help support the hospice’s tireless work both at its newly-built centre in Northchurch, near Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire and in the community.

Former hospice matron Hilary McNair has been instrumental in helping to raise thousands of pounds by organising special events at the village.

And she persuaded Retirement Villages to help boost the hospice coffers further.

Presenting the cheque Cliff Meyler said: “Retirement Villages Ltd is a national company but we are committed to helping out local communities.

“The hospice does amazing work for people with limited life expectancy and their families and we wanted to do something to help support that work.”

Fundraising director for The Hospice of St Francis Sarah Thompson said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the continuing support from Retirement Villages Ltd and Castle Village residents.”
