Gradwell Park

Gradwell Park is an innovative, state-of-the-art nursing and care community. The extensive facilities we hope to build will not only provide a modern and stimulating environment for residents but also a social, training and healthcare hub for the rural communities surrounding Gradwell Park.

We believe Gradwell Park could meet the needs of around 3,400 people aged over 65 in the dozen or so villages that form its rural hinterland.

We are confident also of initiating new partnerships and of supporting existing services in the community.

The proposals for this care village comprise:

  • 55 one and two bed extra care units
  • 30 bed nursing home
  • 24 bed dementia unit offering both residential and nursing care
  • 6 bed special nursing unit offering advanced care packages suitable, for example, for those suffering from brain injuries
  • a centre of excellence also used for training
  • central facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, gym, specially designed and equipped treatment rooms, open to the local rural community for rehabilitation, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and a range of treatments
  • a registered domiciliary care agency serving the local rural community
  • communal facilities including restaurant, lounge, multi-function areas, shop, hairdresser and snooker room
  • guest suite
  • outdoor games area for croquet, boules etc
  • sensory gardens

The site pinpointed for development occupies a little over seven acres on the south west fringe of South Chailey between the doctors’ surgery and secondary school. Access is proposed via Gradwell End and its existing junction with Mill Lane.

A decision on plans submitted to Lewes District Council is expected this year.
