Charters Village

Charters Towers has been a part of the landscape of East Grinstead for around 100 years.

The building was the centrepiece of the world-renowned dance and drama school, the Bush Davies School, during which time the on-site theatre played host to such names as Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev.

After its closure the site was used as offices for a security firm. Many of the old classrooms and the once grand theatre fell into disrepair.

But the entire 16 acre site is now set to be transformed once more into a landmark the area can be proud of.

The main house, known as Charters Towers, will become the centrepiece of Charters Village, a retirement village. Many of the original features in the building will remain and become part of the fabric of the new community’s clubhouse. Extensions will add further shared facilities.

The parkland feel of the site, on Felcourt Road, will be retained with villas, apartment blocks and a 60 bed care home carefully blended into existing landscaping.

The final details are being put in place for construction work to start this year.

It is anticipated a sales team will move onto the site in the Autumn.
