Alex trained as an RGN at the University Hospital of Wales and worked extensively within the NHS. In 1991 she moved into the independent sector, working for small and large providers including BUPA. Alex joined the domiciliary sector in 2000, and more recently was an operations manager for Care UK for five years.

Alex is married with five children and stepchildren. She lives in Poole, Dorset.
