Roseland Parc swimathon raises thousands of pounds
Residents of Roseland Parc Retirement Village, along with their friends and neighbours from Tregony, made a huge splash raising a staggering £2,500 during a 10 hour swimathon.
Swimmers completed a total of 4,600 lengths – an incredible 26 miles - of the retirement village’s pool in half hour stints during the event organised by local vicar the Rev Sian Yates in conjunction with resident Elizabeth Sharratt.
The money raised through sponsorship is to be split between Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and Tregony Parish Church summer holiday children’s events. Mrs Sharratt was the first into the pool, completing a total of 50 lengths and she was followed by husband Roger who – at 87 – was the oldest swimmer. Village Manager Derek Pashley notched up an impressive 140 lengths during his 30 minutes in the water.
A host of families joined in the fun and one of Roseland Nursing Home’s residents completed 22 lengths with the support of the village’s physiotherapist.
“The Swimathon was a great success and we were delighted with the amount raised,” said Mrs Sharratt. “It was wonderful to see so many people from the local area enjoying the facilities at Roseland Parc. Hosting the event enabled us at the village to offer something back to the local community.”
